Research shows that
abuse escalates when women are pregnant. That is why the Coalition has
funded the creation of a family violence screening program for all pregnant
women under the care of The Ohio State Universitys OB-GYN Clinic.
During a 12-month period, over 580 patients were screened and 25 victims
identified through Project SAFE. Not only are victims referred to appropriate
sources of help, the program also educates staff, students and other health
care professionals about family violence.
Project SAFE Replication
The Coalition will begin training physicians, nurses and social workers from all area
hospitals and City of Columbus health center OB-GYN clinics on domestic abuse screening.
Project SAFE Recognition
Project SAFE has been selected as a national best practice model that was presented at
the 2002 National Conference on Health Care and Domestic Violence sponsored by the Family
Violence Prevention Fund, September 26-28, in Atlanta.
View our Project SAFE screening tools. The Coalition strongly suggests that the screenings
be implemented as part of a full program with trained staff. Please contact us for more details.
