A Host Committee
comprised of Bishop James A. Griffin, Catholic Diocese of Columbus; Rabbi
Arthur Nemitoff, Temple Israel; Reverend Jesse Wood, Love Zion Baptist
Church; and Abigail Wexner, Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence,
spearheaded the first local event to educate over 250 religious leaders
from numerous denominations on successful strategies for addressing family
violence. National and local speakers helped Central Ohio clergy understand
the dynamics of family violence and the ways they can be most effective
in helping victims.
On October 31, 2000, attendees brainstormed ways to address family violence
in their congregations. They received a Coalition Toolkit
and signed a Declaration Against Family Violence, reaffirming their commitment
to end the culture of violence.
