Information can save lives. Knowing where to call for help when you, a friend or loved one is facing family violence can mean the difference between getting out alive and being a headline in the newspaper. Family violence includes domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse.

The Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence has published wallet-sized resource cards available to everyone in Central Ohio. About the size of a library or credit card, they easily fit in wallets, shoes and pockets.

The cards contain information about how to protect yourself from abuse; as well as ways to help others who may be abused. They list phones numbers for many excellent social service resources in Central Ohio. These organizations can help you find a place to stay, take legal action against an abuser or help you access programs where you’ll feel comfortable. Many cater to specific cultural or religious backgrounds or sexual orientation. There are also phone numbers for batterer intervention programs.

Several local companies distribute these wallet cards in the work place. You’ll find them in company restrooms for easy and discreet access. This is an easy, inexpensive and effective way to educate employees about family violence and to show that your organization will not tolerate it.

If you are an employer, medical professional, attorney, law enforcement official, member of a social service agency, or a religious leader in Central Ohio, you can order the wallet-sized cards. Limited quantities available. Anyone can download a PDF version below (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).
