Research shows that abuse escalates when women are pregnant. That is why the Coalition has funded the creation of a family violence screening program for all pregnant women under the care of The Ohio State Universitys OB-GYN Clinic. Since its inception in the year 2000 over 12,652 women have been screened for domestic violence through project S.A.F.E. Not only are victims referred to appropriate sources of help, the program also educates staff, students and other health care professionals about family violence. Project SAFE Replication Replication of Project S.A.F.E. in other medical facilities is one of the primary goals of this project. Project S.A.F.E. has been successfully replicated at the following locations; Grant Mobile Unit,Grant Hospital, OB-GYN Associates of Lancaster, Columbus Public Health and Columbus Neighborhood Health Centers comprising of the following clinics; St. Stephen's Health Center, Westside Health Center, John Maloney Health Center, East Central Health Center and North East Health Center. Another goal of the project is to provide education for the healthcare community on the subject of family violence. This goal is accomplished each year by sponsoring a local conference on domestic violence. The final goal of the project is to provide domestic violence screening to all mothers two times during their pregnancy. Click below to view our Project S.A.F.E. screening tools. The Coalition strongly suggests that the screenings be implemented as part of a full program with trained staff. Please contact us for more details, and free training.
