It's Abuse. Awareness Campaign
The Coalition’s It’s Abuse relationship abuse awareness campaign is designed to educate college students about the issue of relationship abuse. The goals are to:
- Raise awareness among students of the warning signs of physical, verbal and
emotional relationship abuse; it’s all about control
- Educate students about maintaining healthy relationships; it’s all about
respect
- Generate awareness of campus and community resources for students experiencing
relationship abuse
While the campaign is customized for each college and university, the It’s Abuse website – http://www.itsabuse.com – is a central component to all campaigns, and provides students with key information and resources.
On campus, we work with key staff members as well as a student advisory board to plan campaign events that meet students where they are at. Examples of campaign events have included:
- Targeted trainings for student groups such as: residential advisors, student judiciary committees, athletes, student government, sororities and fraternities...
- Campaign rallies featuring local celebrities or popular enertainment acts standing up to support the campaign
- Trainings for first year students during orientation or welcome week
- Panel discussions with student survivors and representatives from campus and community resources
- Theatre performances
- Interactive art exhibits
